Aventura Cosmetic Dentist Explains a Cheaper Alternative to Porcelain Veneers

This popular cosmetic procedure offers a variety of aesthetic solutions for your smile in little time; however, it is not cheap. Since porcelain veneers are not covered by most patients’ insurance, our Aventura dentist also offers a less expensive alternative to beautiful porcelain veneers. Here is an in depth look at the cosmetic procedure that mimics porcelain veneers including the advantages and disadvantages of dental bonding.

Advantages of Dental Bonding

As we mentioned before, dental bonding is cheaper than porcelain veneers. This is because cosmetic bonding is made from a different material than veneers. This material requires less preparation and is less expensive than porcelain so the overhead is low. Composite resin is used for a variety of procedures including white fillings and attaching dental veneers. It is a moldable, dyeable material that can be shaped on top of your tooth.

Because it can be molded in the dental office, our Aventura cosmetic dentist will not have to send specifications to a professional ceramist to create your dental restorations. This cuts down time for your dental procedure down to as little as one office visit.

Disadvantages of Dental Bonding

Since dental bonding is made of composite resin, the material is much more porous than porcelain veneers. This means that dental bonding will accumulate staining much more quickly than veneers. In addition, dental bonding is not as strong as porcelain veneers. While dental veneers may last for decades, cosmetic bonding will last for less than ten years. Additionally, bonding does not offer the same semi-translucence that makes dental veneers look so much more like natural teeth.
